Student Council is a democratically elected body in the Middle School and is composed of 12 elected student representatives. Four hold officer positions: president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. By tradition, the officer positions are reserved for 8th graders only. The remaining eight positions, called Advisory Representatives, are selected within each of the eight Middle School advisory groups.
All members of Student Council are charged with carrying out the six aims of Student Council as defined below:
On six Wednesdays during the winter, students in grades 6-12 who join Ski Club go to Boston Mills/Brandywine Ski Resort southeast of Cleveland for several hours of skiing or snowboarding. Students may rent equipment or bring their own.
In their advisory groups, students “adopt” families in need from Lorain County, shop for holiday items, wrap gifts, and make personalized cards for the families. Student Council members then deliver these gifts to the Three Kings Celebration for distribution in early January.
Students pair with preschoolers from two local daycare facilities affiliated with Neighborhood House Association, the only homeless shelter in Lorain County. Book donations help improve this program for the shelter’s day-care facilities.
Once a month, students volunteer to work at Second Harvest Food Bank in Lorain, Ohio. Students pack and organize food for distribution to needy families in the Lorain County Area.
