Participation (playing time) in interscholastic sports
varies with the age and skill level of student-athletes. The
department
has adopted the following guidelines:
Middle School Sports
| |
All athletes who dress for the game
will participate in that game, regardless of the score
or student ability level; |
|
 |
| |
Given the broad continuum of skills
at this developmental level, no athletes receive individual
awards. All athletes are given certificates of participation. |
| |
|
| |
|
Upper School Sports Junior Varsity Level
Junior Varsity sports provide a transition for
skill development and participation between Middle School sports and
Varsity sports. The goal of the department is to achieve a balance
between an "all play" philosophy and strategies for winning.
|
All athletes receive coaching that is positive and supportive
of their individual potential. |
| |
All athletes receive individual
and group instruction in skills. |
| |
All athletes receive an individualized
training program for off-season fitness. |
| |
|
Upper School Sports Varsity Level
Coaching
is done in an environment that seeks to receive the highest degree
of commitment from student-athletes while providing them with positive
motivational support for their efforts. In terms of playing
time at games:
| |
|
|
 |
| |
Coaches will assist students with individual
skill development that shows students how to improve their
playing capacities. |
|
| |
Coaches will provide individualized training
programs for off-season fitness and information on off-season
training camps. |
|
| |
Athletes will receive playing time according
to their skill level. |
|
| |
Awards are given to student-athletes after the
season in conjunction with recommendations from coaches. |
