Lake Ridge Academy provides a warm, caring environment where children with innate curiosities are intellectually stimulated, emotionally sustained, socially involved and physically comfortable. Our goal is to nurture each student and build self-confidence and a sense of self-worth. A love of learning, academic independence, a respect for others and a commitment to community are encouraged daily. Integrity, perseverance, honesty, diplomacy and flexibility are but some of the other values held in esteem at our school.

There are many opportunities to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Meaningful learning and real-life experiences are enhanced by hands-on activities and academic choices. Strategies are employed to encourage all children to be life-long learners through exciting, challenging practices. Whole group, small group and individual instruction are provided as well as cooperative and multiage activities.

The faculty is dedicated and committed to student success as they understand the complexity of developmental needs. Learning experiences are designed for children that have purpose, relevance and depth. In collaboration with colleagues, teachers are encouraged to step beyond any planned curriculum to focus on student needs and exciting opportunities for learning. As life-long learners themselves, the faculty’s zest for personal and professional growth is contagious and serves as a healthy example and catalyst.

We are a caring community. With our small class size, considerate teachers and involved parents, students quickly get the sense that this is “our school.” They are known by the teachers and other students throughout the school. Even the casual observer might notice fifth graders starting their day reading with first graders, fourth with kindergarten, shared field trips, regular assemblies, Lower School “broadcasts” on WLRA, special projects with other school divisions, strong parent volunteerism and much collaboration within the classroom. It is our belief that students working together is most always more productive than working in isolation or competition. Students also become involved in community connections and service beyond the LRA campus.

Each child is special. Students are encouraged to do their personal best as they accept responsibility, strive toward making wise choices, recognize individual differences and learn to respect others, themselves and their environment. In partnership with supportive families, we believe that our educational philosophy and program will help produce caring, successful, responsible citizens who will have a positive influence on others and who will make valuable contributions to their society and world.
