Congratulations to sophomore, Lia Yoo, on her amazing work on the web series musical "Prison Dancer," for which she was the executive producer. “Prison Dancer” is inspired by the famous Prison Dancers of Cebu, and is directed by Romeo Candido, written by Carmen de Jesus, produced by Ana Serrano and their incredible cast. “Prison Dancer” made it all the way to the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.

Lia became the youngest executive producer for this type of project, and travelled to San Francisco to continue the film’s important anti-bullying message by delivering a powerful speech. The series will also debut at the New York Musical Theater Festival in July. Lia single-handedly raised 10K for “Prison Dancer,” and is currently planning a Dance-A-Thon to continue the fundraising efforts.

Ravi Chandra, M.D. of CAAM (Center for Asian American Media) writes “I was particularly struck by 15-year old Lia Yoo of Ohio, founder of a Gay Straight Alliance Club, who raised over $10,000 to help fund “Prison Dancer.” She was one of the most eloquent 15-year olds I’ve ever heard, and I just know we’ll be hearing more from her in the future.  Hey Lia, just tell us when we can vote for you or buy your books!  If you’re a politician, then politics just might be about healing.”

The Lake Ridge Academy community is very proud of Lia and can’t wait to see her bright future unfold!

PRISON DANCER is releasing webisodes (www.youtube.com/prisondancer and www.facebook.com/prisondancer).
