Congratulations to Samantha Potoczak and DeVonna Bradford who were both signed to Division 1 schools last month. Samantha Potoczak will play soccer at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania and DeVonna Bradford will play basketball for the University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan.

Samantha has been playing soccer for fourteen years and is a four-year starter and letter winner as well as the captain here at Lake Ridge Academy. Right now Samantha plays as a center back, but she has been talking to her new coach and maybe playing as a defensive or middle position because she is left-footed. She is excited to start preseason in July. One of her goals is to become a starter and her long term goal is to help Lafayette win the Patriot League. So far Samantha is undecided on a specific major but is hoping to have a career on the business side of the entertainment field and get an internship in New York City. Lake Ridge Academy Athletic Director, Debby Ghezzi says “Samantha is a great leader not only in soccer but in everything she does here at Lake Ridge Academy.” Not only has Samantha been the captain of the soccer team for two years but she was also the lead role in the upper school musical last year. Samantha says she will miss her coaches, teammates, and friends when she leaves for Pennsylvania and has enjoyed the dynamic and opportunities Lake Ridge Academy has provided her.

DeVonna Bradford has been playing basketball since 7th grade and has been a forward and the captain at Lake Ridge Academy for two years. She will be a small forward at the University of Detroit Mercy but her goal is to work hard enough and get the starting spot. Debby Ghezzi says “DeVonna has a very good work ethic.” DeVonna is very excited to start with her new teammates. Meeting the team along with the size of the University was what made her decision to attend Detroit Mercy so easy. She will be studying nursing and is looking forward to having a new start. She says she will miss the support of the teachers and student body most. She appreciated how much of the student body came to see them play. DeVonna says that she is thankful for the level of education Lake Ridge Academy has provided her and feels prepared entering the University of Detroit Mercy. (read more about DeVonna)

 Good luck Samantha and DeVonna!
