Twenty-two Lake Ridge Academy middle school students participated in Junior Model UN on January 11 and 12, 2012, at John Carroll University. The Lake Ridge Academy middle school students were competing against area schools including Laurel, University School, Hathaway-Brown, Mentor, Cleveland Hts., New London, Lakewood Catholic Academy, and Berea . In Junior Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda. Students research countries and issues, make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the conference rules of procedure - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

In the eight committees, one Lake Ridge Academy student won the gavel for best delegate.  Each committee gives four awards - two Honorable Mentions, one Excellent Delegation and one Superior Delegation. Lake Ridge Academy students won both an Honorable Mention and an Excellent Delegation award.

Gavel winner for best delegate -  Josh LaCoste, 7th grade.

Honorable Mention  - Yana Miller, 7th grade and Josh LaCoste, 7th grade.

Excellent Delegation - Zach Perkitny and Evan Filion, 8th grade.
