Construction News
April 10, 2001
There is a lot of activity at the CRC now that the
weather has improved. Almost 90% of the structural steel has
been installed. The remaining steel for the Lower School connector
is not yet completed. The metal stud framing of the first floor
should be substantially complete the week of the 9th. The second
floor will follow.
The Kiva masonry was completed
April 6th. The brick veneer has also started and is complete on
the Northwest corner of the building.
Roofing was delivered and installation
began April 5th.
Work is proceeding on the first
floor plumbing, heating, and sprinkler work.
A list of the building trades working
on the CRC includes laborers, bricklayers, pipe fitters, welders,
iron workers, plumbers, tinners, electricians, insulators, roofers,
framing carpenters, rough carpenters, heavy equipment operators,
truck drivers, plus supervision. The average number of workers per
day is 45.
The Vision to Reality Project
The Community Resource Center (CRC) will house a new K-12 library,
Kiva gathering and performance space, storytelling area, project
rooms and quiet study, and an administrative center. It will also
contain state-of-the-art computer laboratories for lower, middle,
and upper schools and will have a video broadcast and editing center
as well. Mme Suskin is thrilled to have a foreign language center
with five language classrooms, again with the latest technology.
Needless to say, the faculty and students are enormously excited
at the prospect of this wonderful new space!
Phase II, the extensive
renovations scheduled for lower, middle and upper schools, will
begin June 1st, with preliminary prep work scheduled during spring
break. The faculty has begun packing their materials as they complete
units from their syllabi all furnishings, books and supplies
from both buildings will need to be stored for the summer. If you
have moved at all recently, you will sympathize with the enormity
of the task of packing up a school!
Your Gifts to the Vision
to Reality campaign are at work behind the scenes of this wonderful
step in Lake Ridges history. All funds are invested in endowments
and the income is used to support the bond. Your gifts will continue
to benefit many generations of Lake Ridge students. We are enormously
grateful to you for your support as we continue our fund-raising
campaign. All gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated! If you
