Upper School Theatre Teacher Publishes Book
Lake Ridge Academy's Upper School theatre teacher,
Maureen Brady Johnson,
authored a book written for middle school teachers. Middle
Mania! published
by Smith and Kraus, is a compilation of interactive, collaborative
projects. These
creative alternatives to the "standard" play production
offer every student a chance
to get involved while building a friendly community atmosphere.
See a review
in Book
Report Magazine. Mrs. Johnson will be signing copies of her
book this fall at many area
book stores. Watch for details.
Mrs. Johnson stretches the imagination of the students
as they take a real hands-on
approach to producing a dramatic presentation. She has been a teacher
and director in
theatre for thirty years. Her imaginative approach to teaching theatre
has been documented
in such publications as Educational Theatre Association "Teaching
Theatre"; Cleveland's
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame newsletter, "Impact"; and in
the National Council of the
Teachers of English book, Standards in Practice.
In August 2000, Mrs. Johnson took a Lake Ridge Academy
Upper School
acting group of twenty students to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
in Scotland
where they presented a short dramatization as part of the select
American
High School theater presentations. Recently, she was the featured
luncheon
speaker at the Education Theatre Association's Middle School conference
in Las Vegas.
