Intellectually challenging. Forward-thinking. Globally focused. All are hallmarks of our Upper School program, which teaches students to think divergently and creatively, to develop sound problem-solving skills, and to become citizens of the world.
Our rigorous academic curriculum includes 14 Advanced Placement courses, a unique Entrepreneurial Studies program that emphasizes global markets, and an academic partnership with Oberlin College.
Extra-curricular life is equally stimulating and features a wide variety of intellectual, athletic, artistic, and social offerings. These include Mock Trial and the Junior Engineering and Technology Society; community service opportunities that range from mentoring younger students to raising money to support global causes; and our annual Diversity Forum, which is open to students from all schools in the area. Human rights activist John Prendergast was a recent keynote speaker.
Guidance is provided throughout. Freshmen are assigned to one of four houses and to a faculty advisor and remain with that house and advisor through senior year, ensuring a constant source of advocacy and interaction. Freshmen also participate in a seminar that facilitates the transition into Upper School. Juniors and seniors work one-on-one with college advisors, and seniors are part of a seminar that focuses on leadership and understanding ethical issues.
The result is an education that epitomizes Empowered Advancement—one that equips students with the skills and perspectives they’ll need to succeed in college and in life.
