COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

Welcome all! Please take a moment to review the many ways you can be involved in the PA this year. Choose as many as you’d like; but please find a minimum of two ways in which you can help this year. This form is for general PA events which promote community spirit or raise funds which the PA spends on curriculum enrichment and programs that specifically benefit the students at LRA.

This format allows you to keep all the descriptions and Committee Chair names as a reference tool. The portion that you tear off and send into school will be tallied and distributed to the respective Committee Chairs.

A sincere Thank You for all you can do this year!
Janna Dresing
President, Parents’ Association

Chairpersons: Michelle Razdrh & Sherry Esch

This event, held on campus, invites the entire school community and alumni to a day filled with food, games, and activities geared towards school spirit. The Committee coordinates a potluck-style picnic to compliment the grilled entrees, student bake-off, oversees the organization of student-led games and incorporates various school-sponsored activities. Volunteers help with planning, setup, grilling, activities, and clean-up.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS BREAKFAST
Event Date: Thursday, October 25, 2007
Chairperson: Rachel Tansey

This event features speakers and information on Breast Cancer awareness and self-examination. Volunteers needed to plan, setup and cleanup.

HOLIDAY WORKSHOP
Event Date:
Friday, December 14,2007

Chairperson: Dave Kuentz & Jennifer Hanrahan

A one-day fundraising event which gives the LRA Community a chance for holiday gift making. The Holiday Craft Shop gives the children a chance to create, instead of shop. Prior to the event, the Committee chooses what items will be offered, organizes volunteer teams to design, purchase and prepare each craft project, and coordinates the paperwork for ordering by the lower school students. The day of the shop volunteers set up, assist the students in creating, wrapping and tagging their craft items and take down the gift-making stations. Many volunteers are needed, and it’s a great way to meet children and adults alike! Please contact the chairs immediately if you have a great gift idea.

GIANT GYM SALE
Event Date: Friday, May 2, 2008 & Saturday, May 3, 2008
Chairperson: Kristin Roshkowski & Karen Stary

This is the quintessential Giant Gym Sale - our 400+ family garage sale! Volunteers (many, many!) help sort, display and price donations the week prior to the sale; serve as cashiers and floor helpers during the two days of the sale.

LOWER SCHOOL FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Event Date: Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008
Chairperson: Heidi Deane

A winter event with the focus on FUN!! This event is designed to bring lower school children and their families together for a social occasion.
The theme changes annually, and usually includes lots of food, music, dancing, games/crafts, and bounce house fun. Volunteers set the theme and coordinate all the aspects of the dance. Help is needed with the planning, decorations, refreshments, etc.

YEAR-LONG ACTIVITIES

LOWER SCHOOL EDUCATION AIDES & WEB PUBLISHING
Chairperson: Athena Diamantis

These volunteers are an integral part of the K - 5 curriculum. Duties range from copying, laminating and cutting to publishing books, newsletters and newspapers using Pagemaker software, scanners and digital cameras. The Chairperson will organize “work” schedules and train volunteers to use the equipment and computers as needed. This committee is one of the best ways to meet students across the LS grades and gain insight into the lower school’s Language Arts & Social Studies curriculum!

FACULTY APPRECIATION
Chairperson: Terri Zajac

This Committee is responsible for showing appreciation to the faculty/staff for their dedication and support of our children and school. Historically, this gratitude has taken many forms, and volunteers help by donating food items or assisting in the actual events. Examples are:

  • Dinners provided during parent/teacher conferences.
  • Special occasion lunches.
  • Gifts/creative tokens/edible treats in recognition of holidays and notable events.
  • Cookie Exchange before the December holiday break.

LIBRARY AIDES

These volunteers assist our school librarians in a variety of ways, which includes processing new books, reshelving books, preparing birthday books and filing materials.

PARENT EDUCATION
Chairperson: Lisa Bramhall

This Committee will work to identify parent education needs, and provide resources to include library materials and outside speakers and recommended books with group discussions. Members will also participate in PACT (Parents Aware Communicating Together), a forum sponsered by the Cleveland Council of Independent Schools to deal with teen issues.

PIZZA LUNCH
Chairperson: Cindy Tellerd

The purpose of this Committee is to provide a pizza lunch every Friday for the Lower School children, faculty and staff. The Chairpersons establish pricing, handle ticket sales and purchase pizza, side dishes and beverages. Volunteers are scheduled on rotating Fridays to set up and serve the lunches.

  • Organize, set up and clean up refreshments at the Admission events
