From day one in our Lower School, students roll up their sleeves and experiment with any and all media, learn to use art materials properly, and study the elements of design. As they advance through Lake Ridge Academy, their knowledge and abilities advance as well. Students study art history, drawing, painting and explore media such as ceramics and printmaking. And their arts education has only just begun.
Emphasis on the visual arts continues throughout Middle School and becomes increasingly specialized in Upper School. In freshman year, all students take Foundations of Art, which uses drawing as a basis for design, then expands into other specialties such as painting, ceramics, digital photography, and sculpture. Juniors and seniors serious about pursuing careers in art can take Honors Art, which leads to the Advanced Placement Studio Art course designed for serious art students who want to build a portfolio.
