March 23 Announcement
Spring Break Announcement from Head of School Mitch White
I hope you are all staying healthy and safe during these uncertain times. I am writing to let you know that everyone at Lake Ridge: the leadership team, our teachers, our support staff, and our board of directors has been busy over spring break preparing for our virtual reopening of “Lake Ridge @Home.” Lake Ridge @Home will start on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, and continue until guidance from the State of Ohio and other authorities allow us to resume our normal operations. While many unknowns remain, I can tell you with absolute certainty that everyone at Lake Ridge stands ready to help you weather the storm we are in.
I also wanted to share a couple of specific thoughts and updates with you:
I am encouraging everyone in our community (parents, students, teachers, staff, and school leaders) to extend grace to each other in this uncertain environment. I am sure we will all make mistakes and learn together how to best navigate this new learning environment and the greater uncertainty that now exists in our society. I am striving to be gentle and kind in my interactions with everyone, and I am sure others are too. Thank you.
You and/or your student (depending on the age of your child(ren)) will hear from teachers between Thursday, March 26 and Monday, March 30 about what “Lake Ridge @Home” will look like starting March 31. We purposefully did not send instructions out earlier so that you and our teachers can enjoy spring break, and to give our teachers time to prepare.
Lake Ridge’s strengths are the relationships we have with each other, the social/emotional learning emphasized throughout our community, and our shared values. The division directors and I have encouraged teachers to find creative ways to nurture those strengths even in a virtual learning environment, in addition to maintaining our academic standards.
We know each family’s circumstances are unique, and flexibility will be a hallmark of Lake Ridge @Home. Most learning, especially for younger students, will be asynchronous (not requiring you to join at a specific time), or by appointment. There may be community-wide (classes, grades, houses, etc.) events happening together at a specific time, but those will not be part of classes.
I will be hosting “Mondays with Mitch” in a webinar format starting Monday April 6 and continuing at least through the month of April. Michael Haase, RN, our school medical professional, will join me and we will give updates and answer questions about the current situation each week. I will be publishing the time and format of these webinars closer to April 6.
While these are difficult times, experiences like this show the true nature and values of people and organizations. I can say without hesitation that I am confident Lake Ridge will not only survive, but we will thrive. With adversity comes opportunity, and I am sure that collectively we will shine over the next few months, eventually emerging a stronger, wiser, and closer community. If you have questions, suggestions, or concerns, I would welcome the chance to speak with you individually.
All the best,
PS I am including a short video message. I hope you enjoy!
