Last Friday, Club Med hosted its annual Health Symposium. Our students were joined by other high schoolers from Padua High School, St. Joseph's Academy and Andrew Osborne Academy. This year's theme was Debates in the Healthcare Field and included a keynote address on the opioid epidemic by Dr. Ali Mchaourab, an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, founder and past chief of the Pain Management Center at the Northeast Ohio VA Health Care System, and a nationally-renowed leader and expert in the opioid epidemic.

A Q&A panel discussion pon the opioid epidemic followed that included Dr. Mchourab, Dr. Dalal Chenouda, an internist at the Louis Stokes VA Center and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, and Mr. Lovel Henderson, a former drug addict and Vietnam Veteran, who currently councils recovering addicts. Prior to the keynote address, club members led pressentatons and discussions on a range of other topics including medical marijuana, abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide, opioids as pain relievers, the obesity epidemic, and how schools support mental health.
