Community Service

Community service is not a requirement at Lake Ridge Academy, it's a way of life. Understanding the importance of giving back to the community is engrained through classroom projects, student clubs, and annual all-school events. Beginning in kindergarten, students are provided with various opportunities.

Year of Service Kick-Off

Every September, all of our students, faculty and staff come together for a full day of community service projects that occur at various locations in neighboring towns and on our own campus. They often work in teams of various ages, helping each other along the way. This day influences students to take on more community service throughout the school year and have a greater appreciation for taking care of their own school campus. It's hard to say who benefits the most from this day - communities in need or our students who build relationships and camaraderie by working in teams side by side with their teachers.

Holiday Project

For over 20 years, Lake Ridge Academy has organized the Holiday Project, an all-school effort to raise money and donate food and clothing to those in need in Lorain, Ohio. Every year, the school raises over $1,000 and 9 tons of food, which keeps a local food pantry stocked full for almost six months. In addition, our Upper School students prepare a Three Kings Day dinner, and give gifts to the children that attend, most of whom would have nothing during the holiday season.

Lower School

The Lower School often coordinates community service with classroom related projects. The Animal Protective League is a favorite organization for these children to support. Every year, kindergartners conduct a pet project, which includes baking their own homemade pet treats that they sell on campus, while first graders design and sell their own valentine cards.

Middle School

A portion of the Middle School advisory program focuses on service. From visiting with senior citizens, to reading with pre-school students, to organizing a 5K Doggie Dash in support of the APL, students work throughout the year to help community organizations in our region.

Upper School

In the Upper School, we embrace a culture of community service. Although there is no community service requirement for graduation, we provide many opportunities for all students to engage in volunteer and service activities that will benefit our campus, our local community, and the global community. To ensure that all of our students are aware of these community service opportunities, the National Honor Society promotes each project through announcements and postings.
