School Reopening

June 15 Announcement

School Reopening In-Person on August 21

Dear Lake Ridge Families,

I am writing today to share our plans for reopening the school in August.

Based on guidance received from federal, state, and local levels of government, I am happy to let you know that we are planning a full in-person return for all of our students on Friday, August 21. (Please note that as I mentioned on Mondays with Mitch earlier, August 21 is two days later than we were originally scheduled to reopen.) We are confident in our ability to implement all health and safety recommendations to ensure a safe reopening.

We are fortunate that as a small school, with small classes, no cafeteria, no boarding and no Pre-K program, we will be able to open fully in-person based on the current guidance. Having said that, we will be implementing significant mitigation measures, and it will be important that everyone in our community understands and follows the procedures we will put in place. We will be spending part of the day on August 21, going over new practices and procedures with our students.

As I have previously shared, we have formed a “GoForward” team composed of teachers, our facilities manager, our school health professional, and the leadership team. I will continue to host “Mondays with Mitch” every other Monday at 4:00 pm during the summer - the link to today’s meeting is included in this email. During those calls I will keep you updated on the work of our GoForward team and how our plans are shaping up, including decisions we make regarding mitigation measures. In addition, we are in the process of scheduling two family listening sessions via Zoom so we can hear your thoughts and concerns. I know families will need and expect different support as we reopen, and we will shape our plans based on your feedback as much as possible while complying with the relevant guidance.

Our entire plan will be finalized by August 10, and we will release our final reopening playbook that will include all relevant details for faculty, staff, families, students, and visitors, no later than August 10, 2020. Of course, if the guidance changes our plans may change, but we will be ready for all possible scenarios. In the meantime, if you have questions or concerns, please let me know. And thanks for your support during an unusual time!

See you in August!
