Board of Directors

The Board of Lake Ridge Academy has the ultimate responsibility for our school. The Board is responsible for the integrity of the school, the standing and reputation built by its founders and by those who have labored over the years. The Board holds in trust the school’s future as well as its present.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing a clear statement of the mission of the school's philosophy.
  • Establishing policies under which the Head of School will administer the school.
  • Overseeing and ultimate accountability for fiscal affairs of the school including assets represented by buildings and grounds.
  • Developing and implementing the Long-Range Plan.
  • Making early contributions to annual and capital fund drives.
  • Recommending the school, as appropriate, to prospective families and students.
  • Avoiding conflict of interest and the appearance of conflict of interest in all activities on behalf of the school.

Committees

The Committee on Directors coordinates the identification, cultivation, recruitment, and orientation of new directors; renominates sitting directors; nominates officers; facilitates Board self-assessment; identifies the Board's needs for education and training; and organizes recognition of individual directors.

The Development Committee coordinates the school's fundraising activities; advises the Board on financial goals of annual and other campaigns; reviews case statements; facilitates Board and other volunteer fundraising and friendraising activities; raises funds.

The Finance Committee works in concert with staff to develop long-range financial plans and annual budgets, sets tuition levels for Board approval, monitors budget, makes periodic reports to the Board, facilitates annual audit.

The Marketing and Enrollment Committee reviews admission policies, marketing literature, ads and campaigns, the website, the master calendar for school promotion, and strategies for recruiting students and doing ongoing cultivation of families.

Ad Hoc Committees may be appointed by the Board Chair for such special tasks as circumstances may warrant. Such ad hoc committees shall limit their activities to the accomplishment of the particular tasks for which they are created. Upon completion of its assigned task, each such ad hoc committee shall stand discharged.

    Board Chair
    Thomas Dresing, M.D. '83 (Meredith '17 and Sam '22) is a staff cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic. A graduate of Dartmouth College, where he majored in Anthropology, Tom earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama's School of Medicine prior to his residency at the University of Minnesota.
  2. Benjamin P. Norton

    Board Vice-Chair
    Benjamin Norton (Benjy '22, Katie '20, and Gretchen '17) is the C.O.O./ Senior Vice President of Buckeye Community Bank. Previously, he was Vice President at National City Bank. Ben served on the Lake Ridge Academy Board of Directors from 2004-2013. He also served on the EMH Regional Medical Center Board from 2002-2009.
  3. Andrea Manning

    Andrea Manning

    Board Secretary
    Andrea Manning (Aaron '23) is a Senior Treasury Analyst at Invacare Corporation. Her responsibilities include cash management, investment activities, bank relationship administration, and risk management. Prior to her work at Invacare, she was an accountant at ICI Paints. Earlier this year she assisted in developing Lake Ridge Academy's Statement of Investment Policy. Andrea earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Cleveland State University.
  4. Laura Gatten, CPA

    Board Treasurer
    Laurie Gatten (Rachel '23) is a director at Barnes Wendling CPAs, providing accounting, assurance, tax, and consulting services to non-profit organizations and privately held companies. Laurie is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University where she earned a B.A. in business administration.
  5. Raymond Bobgan

    Raymond Bobgan

    Raymond Bobgan (father of Raziel ‘19) is the Executive Artistic Director of the Cleveland Public Theater. He has been with the organization since 1991 and is in his tenth season in this leadership position. He is also the board chair for the Gordon Square Arts District Cleveland Improvement Corporation, a member of the advisory committee of past awardees for the Cleveland Arts Prize, and a member of the steering committee for the Arts and Culture Action Committee (Issue 8). Raymond earned his B.A. from the University of Akron.
  6. Albert V. Chan, MD, FACC

    Albert V. Chan, MD, FACC

    Albert Chan, M.D. (father of Adrienne '21) is a cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Albert earned his bachelor of science and his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Albert is a member of the Marketing and Enrollment committee and volunteers his time at numerous open houses held during the school year.

    Don R. Esch

    Don Esch (Megan ’09, Emma ’16 and Abby ’18) is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Bettcher Industries. His bachelor’s degree is from Albion College and his MBA is from the University of Oklahoma. Don has been active with the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra and Bird Technologies Group.
  8. Amelia Farago

    Amelia Farago

    Amelia Workman Farago (Hera ’24 and Marcello '27) earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston and went on to study at Case Western Reserve University where she received JD and MBA degrees. Amelia is now an attorney with Taft, Stettinius & Hollister LLP. Amelia is a Legal Aid Society of Cleveland Partner in Justice and is a former trustee for the Southern Lorain County Historical Society. Amelia recently served on the 50th Anniversary Celebration Committee.

    Cole M. Fauver ‘79

    Cole Fauver '79 is a lawyer and adjunct law professor. He received his B.A. from Brown University and J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law.
  10. Vicenta C. Gaspar-Yoo, MD, MBA

    Vicenta C. Gaspar-Yoo, MD, MBA

    Vicenta “Bing” Gaspar-Yoo (Lia ’14, Trixie ’18, and PJ ’20) attended the University of the Philippines and the University of the East for undergraduate and medical school. She later earned her Masters in Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University. Bing is now the Medical Director for the Firelands Spine Center of Excellence and the Chairman for the Firelands Physician Hospital Organization. Bing serves on the Board of Directors for the Firelands Regional Medical Center and is the Co-Founder of the Firelands mammogram fundraiser. Bing is also a Thespian parent at Lake Ridge Academy and served on the faculty appreciation committee as well as the 50th Anniversary Campaign Committee.
  11. Patrick Harrington

    Patrick Harrington

    Patrick Harrington (John '20 and Matthew '20) is a private practice attorney who acts as general counsel to the Cleveland Automobile Dealers' Association and Environmental Water Solutions. Pat earned his B.S. and B.A. in marketing and international business from The Ohio State University, an M.B.A. in finance from Xavier University, and a J.D. from Capital University Law School.
  12. Yumi Ijiri, PhD

    Yumi Ijiri, PhD

    Yumi Ijiri (mother of Mia ‘24 and Kira ’20) is a physics professor at Oberlin College. Yumi is a member of Lake Ridge Academy’s Marketing and Enrollment committee and volunteers as secretary/treasurer of the American Physical Society Topic Group on Magnetism. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and her graduate degrees from Cornell University.
  13. Paula Janmey

    Paula Janmey

    Paula Janmey (mother of Claire ’23 and Erica ’24) is the on-site owner of the new Goddard School in North Ridgeville, which opened next door to Lake Ridge Academy in January 2015. She is a graduate of the University of South Florida where she earned her B.S. in chemical engineering and later earned an M.S. in organizational development from Case Western Reserve University. She held several positions during her 22 years at Energizer, including in the product design and quality control departments. Paula facilitated Lake Ridge Academy’s long-range plan, Vision Beyond 50, and is a Girl Scout troop leader for the classes of 2023 and 2024 at Lake Ridge Academy.
  14. Rebecca Ruppert McMahon

    Rebecca Ruppert McMahon

    Becky Ruppert McMahon (Natalie '23) is the Executive Director for the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, where she is responsible for the day-to-day operations and resources of the 5,200 member organization and its charitable arm the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation. Becky is also a member of the First Federal Lakewood Savings & Loan Board of Directors, and serves as a Trustee for the Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital Foundation. Becky joined the Lake Ridge Academy Board in 2011.
  15. Joseph F. Miclat ‘90

    Joseph F. Miclat ‘90

    Joseph Miclat '90 (Madeleine '24 and Francesca "KiKi" '26) is an experienced private practice tax attorney. Joe earned his B.A. from Boston College, a J.D. and M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University, an L.L.M. in taxation from Boston University, and an L.L.M. from the University of Miami.
  16. Clare Navratil

    Clare Navratil

    Clare Navratil (Liz ‘20) is the former Parents Association president at Lake Ridge Academy. She has been an active figure on campus over the last several years, assuming many volunteer roles including Auction Committee Co-Chair. A graduate of Bowling Green State University with a degree in business administration, Clare previously owned an office services and medical billing company and now assists with special projects at Woodbine Products Company.
  17. Joyesh Raj, MD, FACS ’89

    Joyesh Raj, MD, FACS ’89

    Joyesh Raj, MD, FACS '89 is a returning board member who served from 2005 through 2014. A graduate of the University of Chicago and University of Cincinnati Medical School, he is the founder of Raj Plastic Surgery and Chief of Plastic Surgery at Fairview Hospital. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Community West Foundation.
  18. Michael J. Sherwin

    Michael J. Sherwin

    Michael Sherwin (father of Jimmy ’23, Jack ’27 and Joe ‘27) is the owner and president of Columbiana Boiler Company, a 125-year-old business specializing in chemical transportation containers and zinc baths. Previously, he served as chairman and president of Clevaflex, LLC a tier II automotive supplier of thermal management products for under-the-hood applications. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Ashland University.
  19. Brian Shimko ‘04

    Brian Shimko ‘04

    Brian Shimko graduated from Lake Ridge Academy in 2004. He earned a BA in economics from Fordham University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He is currently a venture capital partner at Maywic Select Investments in Cincinnati, Ohio.
