Open Positions

Upper School Chemistry Teacher

Lake Ridge Academy is seeking a full-time Upper School Chemistry Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry and be able to teach at every level, from general to AP Chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in curriculum design and knowledge of latest trends in pedagogy and assessment methods. The best candidates are those who embrace a healthy combination of joy and rigor in the classroom, love working with and supporting students, and model lifelong learning.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Teach 4 sections of chemistry at the general, honors, and AP levels with ability to teach electives
  • Provide extensive hands-on laboratory experience for students
  • Meet students for individual help outside of class
  • Serve as advisor to 8-10 upper school students
  • Participate in extracurricular life at school, including support of House events, sponsoring a club, etc.
  • Participate in faculty committees and meetings

Middle School Science Teacher, Grades 7 and 8

Lake Ridge Academy is seeking a full-time Middle School Science Teacher for grades 7 and 8 beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community, as well as a commitment to including varying perspectives among the course materials. Our science curricula are intensive rather than integrated. Seventh grade Physical Science includes an overview of fundamental concepts in chemistry, forces, and electromagnetic theory. Eighth grade Earth Science is an overview of geosciences, including geology, plate tectonics, earth/moon/sun astronomy, weather, and climate. Both curricula should encourage our students to utilize our 93-acre campus.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Design curriculum and assessments in collaboration with our Science Dept.
  • Teach both 7th and 8th grade sciences
  • Lead our school’s engagement in the Science & Engineering Symposium
  • Meet students for individual help outside of class
  • Serve as advisor to approximately 10 middle school students
  • Participate in extracurricular life at school, including events, sponsoring a club, etc.
  • Participate in faculty committees and meetings

Summer Camp Lead Teacher

Lake Ridge Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Summer Camp Lead Teacher to join a dynamic team for an enriching six-week summer camp program. The camp will begin on June 10th and end on July 19th, offering engaging activities and educational experiences for campers. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment for campers to learn and grow. Our summer camp program caters to children K-8 from diverse backgrounds and offers a blend of academic enrichment and recreational activities to learn and play on our beautiful 93-acre campus.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing creative leadership, supervision, and recreational guidance to campers in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Planning and implementing structured lesson plans, camp activities, and special events tailored to the interests and needs of campers.
  • Engaging with campers during various activities, outings, and events, promoting a sense of belonging and camaraderie.

Director of Theatre

The 6-12 Director of Theatre is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters students' creativity, confidence, and skills in the theatrical arts. This individual will develop and implement curriculum, direct productions, and provide guidance and mentorship to students interested in all aspects of theatre, including acting, stagecraft, and production management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive theatre curriculum that aligns with theatre education best practices catering to students with diverse skill levels and interests.
  • Teach four courses in theatre, including Acting/Advanced Acting, Musical Theatre Workshop, and other courses that cover various aspects of theatre, including acting techniques, play analysis, dance, and theatre history.
  • Lead all aspects of the direction and production of school plays, musicals, and other theatrical performances, guiding students through auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and feedback to students to help them develop their acting skills, stage presence, and overall performance abilities.
  • Offer guidance and instruction in technical aspects of theatre production, such as set design, lighting, sound, costume design, and stage management.
  • Serve as Thespian Troupe Advisor
  • Be an advisor in the Lake Ridge Academy School of Fine Arts (SOFA), with in-school hours and after-school hours commitments.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Theatre Arts, Drama Education, or a related field.

Lake Ridge Academy was founded in 1963 by a small group of parents who shared a dream to create a school that would provide an exemplary learning environment where their children would be known. While our school has grown tremendously in both size and academic program since then, the mission of our founders still holds true to this day.
