Center for Fine Arts
A Passion to Create
The Center for Fine Arts provides an acclaimed fine arts education for all students K-12. Led by a talented faculty, many of whom are professional artists, the Center makes possible all the many benefits of a strong fine arts program – enhancing students’ creative and critical thinking skills, building confidence and self-awareness, and gaining a lifelong cultural appreciation for the arts.
The Fine Arts Building is a separate campus facility that encourages the arts to come alive through inspiring art studios, a ceramics studio, performance rooms, and a black box theater.
Exposure to the fine arts is critical to the development of young minds so it is an important part of our curriculum. Lower School students gain early performance art skills through an Orff-Schulwerk approach of blending music and movement, while also exposing them to the world’s greatest artists for inspiration in visual arts class. Middle School students take visual and performing arts classes all three years, and Upper School students are required to take three full years of fine art, which is more than the high school graduation requirement. Unique class offerings include graphic design, tap dance, improvisation, ceramics, painting, and 3-D art.
Performing arts program offerings include an exceptional strings program beginning in 4th grade, Middle and Upper School jazz bands which expose students to various instruments, and Middle and Upper School choral groups including a cappella. Our students have performed in many local, regional and national organizations and venues including National Youth Orchestra and Carnegie Hall.
Our acclaimed theater program begins in Middle School, with every student participating in the production of the annual Middle School musical. Upper School thespians perform a fall play and spring musical annually.
Professional artists often visit campus for master class workshops.
- By joining the School of Fine Arts, an Upper School graduation certificate program, aspiring artists can further strengthen their skills with increased course work and one-on-one training in the fine arts.
