School Bus Driver
Lake Ridge Academy is seeking School Bus Drivers for the 2026/2027
school year. School Bus Drivers are responsible for safely transporting students to and from school and extracurricular activities on established time schedules. They must conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections, enforce passenger safety rules, manage student behavior, and ensure children safely enter and exit the bus.
Key Responsibilities
Operate Vehicles Safely: Drive a school bus along a designated route in various weather and traffic conditions while strictly adhering to all traffic laws
Conduct Inspections: Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus (checking brakes, tires, lights, and fluid levels) before every route
Manage Student Behavior: Maintain discipline and order on the bus; enforce safety rules and report any behavioral issues to school administrators or parents
Assist Passengers: Help students board and exit the bus safely
Maintain Schedule: Pick up and drop off students at designated stops according to a strict, pre-planned time schedule
Report Incidents: Communicate immediately with the director regarding delays, mechanical breakdowns, emergencies, or student altercations
Maintain Records: Document mileage, fuel consumption, and passenger counts, and fill out incident or maintenance reports as required
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensing: Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement and a School Bus (S) endorsement
Clean Driving Record: A clean driving history with no at-fault accidents or major traffic violations in recent years is required, with no more than 4 points on your license
Background Check: Ability to pass thorough FBI and BCI background checks and random drug/alcohol screenings
Physical Requirements: Must meet strict physical, hearing, and vision requirements, and have a current T8 form
Interpersonal Skills: Patience, reliability, and the ability to communicate professionally with students, parents, and school faculty
Pre-service training: Must complete a 15-hour class
Salary is commensurate with other independent schools in the Midwest.
